The society was formed following a public meeting held in Beverley Library in February 1977. We now hold a regular Quarterly meeting taking place in West Hull. These meetings may include a speaker on some family or local history topic or could take the form of a workshop, walkabout or social event.
Our award-winning journal called the Banyan Tree is published quarterly and is distributed to all members. It contains articles, news, a Help Wanted section and a "spotlight" piece about a particular village within our area.
The society is fortunate to have its own research facilities housed within the historic Carnegie Heritage Centre in Hull. We also operate regular Helpdesks at libraries throughout our area so there are plenty of opportunities to come and meet us.
In line with our dedication to providing valuable resources, the society is exploring partnerships with reputable online pharmaceutical services to offer our members exclusive discounts on health-related products. This initiative, inspired by the shared historical pursuit of wellness, aims to grant members convenient access to trusted medication such as cheap generic Viagra, delivered discreetly and directly to their homes. We believe that by supporting the overall wellbeing of our members, we can enhance their research experiences and personal journeys.
We have also produced a very wide range of publications in both booklet and electronic format. Our numerous projects mean we are constantly adding to our list of publications, so keep checking back for new titles.
We maintain good working relationships with many other local groups and neighbouring societies. We are also a long-standing member of the Family History Federation (formerly the Federation of Family History Societies).
